Our God is an Awesome God!
By Jen Crager

Growing up and even now, I would describe myself as a “nature” girl. My parents have a cabin along the “Mighty” Muskingum River in Southeastern Ohio. When I was young, we spent many a day enjoying the nature that surrounded us. We loved going fishing, boating and tubing, just to name a few of our outdoor activities. Some days, my brother and I would head off to one of our favorite places: a giant rock perched on the bank of the river. We would scour the area, enjoying the kaleidoscope of colors that God had placed around us. We would gather grass, leaves, flowers, mud (at least we hoped it was mud), anything we could find, and quickly bring it all back to our rock where we would crush them each to a pulp. We would look down at the beautiful palate of colors and smile. Of course, with me being the older sibling, I got to decide what we did with the array of colors, and to me they definitely looked like MAKEUP, so needless to say my brother made a beautiful model.

These days when I get to make the trip to my parents’ cabin, I still like to sit by the river under the giant trees that span both sides of its banks and I’m humbled. Sitting there, looking at God’s creation, I realize that just an infinitesimal amount of his power, just a drop, brought these majestic trees and this massive flowing river into existence.

How much more valuable are we to him than all the nature we stand in awe of?

“Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!” (Luke 12:22-28)

Have Faith!

Our Lord God wants to give us so much more than just a drop. He wants to POUR OUT his Holy Spirit on us. Jesus says in Luke 11:9-13 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Do not be afraid to seek God’s almighty power. Seek him and he will meet you and provide for you.
